I noticed as I was doing this years Holiday card “Five Gold Rings” (coming soon) I never shared last years. So hear it is! Three color screenprint on Poptone Sweettooth. I’ve been doing a holiday card inspired by a line from the 12 days of Christmas song. This is “Four Colly birds” from last year.
I was super excited to design another birdhouse for Wemake’s Put A Bird In It event for Design Week Portland. The auction is on Friday October 10th the details are here. But they it is up for presale here. Once again there was an amazing amount talent on display from the participants, I was blown away! You can see the rest of the awesome birdhouses for yourself here!
The inspiration is from pre-Columbian and devotional art and reflects European colonialism and the appropriation of indigenous culture through religious iconography.
The birds remember, their songs call His name. Knowledge? Justice? Only the initiated may truly understand.

Three haughty French Hens for this years Holiday Card. Blue and silver ink hand pulled screenprint on Pop Tone Sweet Tooth paper. If you have been following my holiday cards the last couple years you may have guess Three French Hens for this years card.
An illustration of Smaug I did for the Ten Paces & Draw Hobbit artists swap. I’m so psyched I got to draw Smaug, he kicked off an obsession with dragons I cultivated as a kid and nurtured into adulthood.
PS- I saw the Hobbit in HFR I really liked it, a bit long but lots of fun. The HFR was interesting, not as bad as has been reported, though it did look a little televisual during fast motion sequences. I’ll be happy to see it again in 2D.
A birdhouse I designed, built and illustrated for WeMake’s ‘Put a bird in it’ event during Portland Design Week 2012. Dozens of brilliant local and not so local artists, illustrators and designers created an awesome array for Birdhouses. They were auctioned off on the closing night of PDX DW to benefit Portland public schools arts programs. Overall the event raised over $6000 and it was a lot of fun!
