Space Marine of the Space Wolves Chapter
This is the second Hero print in Versus: Heroes and Villains a collaborative art project I’m doing with Fred DiMeglio www.manvsink.com/. It was inspired by the words Beardly, Electric, Armored, Thunderous, which were used to describe Fred’s Thor print.
Screenprinted using rubylith and ink on velum.
For the second Hero (my first) I went with a Space Wolf. In the Warhammer 40k world of books and games, the Space Wolves are a legion of Space Marines from a cold viking type world. He is armed with a chain-sword, which is just what it sounds like. Though the space wolves wear power armor and roam the galaxy they still wear the totems and trappings of their barbaric culture, thus the runes, wolf pelt, fangs etc. My brothers played the games when I was a kid and I was always fascinated by the rich detailed world and art. I didn’t get as free as I wanted to on this print, but I blame the source inspiration with all the wonderful detail. I’m really loving the rubylith, but I am ready to experiment with it a bit more.
