Villain 01: Aguirre
The Wrath of God
This is the first print in Versus: Heroes and Villains a collaborative art project I’m doing with Fred DiMeglio www.manvsink.com/
Don Lope de Aguirre
For the first villain in this series of prints I chose Aguirre, the treacherously insane tyrant of a band of conquistadors. Famously portrayed by Klaus Kinski in the Werner Herzog film Aguirre: Der Zorn Gottes. It’s one of my favorite films and the story of it’s production is almost as insane and interesting as the film itself, with fights, floods, shootings and monkey kidnappings being just a few of the highlights.
Screenprinted using rubylith and ink on velum.
Versus:Heroes and Villains
This collaborative series follows two threads, one is based on heroes, one is based on villains. After each round, pieces are shown to volunteers, who are asked to describe the character in four words. The words should reflect the character, not be a specific description of the subject the artist has chosen.
The descriptions are then exchanged between the artist, and the next round begins, using the description as a prompt. Each artist will create 6 heroes and 6 villains over the course of 12 weeks.
All work is print based, at the discretion of the artist, the only rule is no computer generated images, analog only!
Over the course of the 12 weeks, we will need 24 volunteers to be go between for us, using their unique view to write a description of the characters. Your description can convey emotion, attitude, and other character traits, without revealing their identity. You will be given credit when we show our collection! If you want to volunteer please you can sign up here!
